Staff Engineer (Typescript/NodeJS / Java / SDK / QA / SDT)

Role Summary

 

A Staff Engineer is a senior technical leader within the engineering organisation, responsible for driving technical excellence, architectural decisions, and innovation across teams. With deep expertise in system design, scalability, and performance optimisation, the Staff Engineer ensures alignment between technical execution and business objectives. They play a pivotal role in mentoring engineers, influencing technical strategy, and fostering a culture of quality and collaboration. As a hands-on expert, they contribute to complex problem-solving while guiding teams in adopting best practices and emerging technologies.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• • Technical Strategy & Leadership: Drive the long-term technical vision, ensuring architectural alignment across multiple teams and value streams.

• • System Design & Scalability: Architect scalable, high-performance solutions, ensuring system resilience and maintainability.

• • Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Mentor engineers at all levels, fostering growth and technical excellence through coaching, workshops, and design reviews.

• • Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with Staff Engineers, Principal Engineers, and Product Managers to align engineering initiatives with business priorities.

• • Quality & Standards Enforcement: Set and uphold engineering best practices, coding standards, and design principles across teams.

• • Performance Optimisation: Identify and resolve system bottlenecks, ensuring applications meet performance SLAs and user expectations.

• • Security & Compliance: Champion security best practices, ensuring adherence to compliance requirements and proactively mitigating risks.

• • Tech Roadmap Contribution: Influence and contribute to the technology roadmap, advocating for investments in refactoring, scalability, and innovation.

• • Low level solution design creation: collaborate with Solution Architects to create low level solution design based on high level. Consult with architects during the process of design creation.

• • Hands-on Contribution: Balance strategic responsibilities with hands-on coding, code reviews, and technical proof-of-concepts.

• • Stakeholder Communication: Bridge the gap between engineering, product, and business teams, effectively communicating complex technical topics.

• • Technical Backlog Ownership: Being responsible for any relevant technical backlogs / roadmaps, ensuring that items are included during Planning sessions.

• • On-Standby Responsiveness: Be on standby to respond promptly to issues, calls, and other system-related matters as they arise. Work closely with other teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues with agility.

By balancing deep technical expertise with exemplary leadership skills, the Staff Engineer is charged with the dual responsibility of steering project success and influencing the collective talent of the engineering organisation. Their role is critical in shaping a high-performing team that consistently delivers superior results while pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation.

• • Experience in the fintech, e-commerce, or payment orchestration industry.

• • Proven track record working in high-growth, fast-paced technology environments.

• • Familiarity with e-commerce platforms, payment gateways, and transaction

• • processing systems.

• • Understanding of agile development practices.

• • Knowledge of DevOps tools and practices for continuous integration and delivery.

• • Basic knowledge of user interface and user experience design principles.
